Cryoskin vs CoolSculpting –
Are you in good shape but concerned about stubborn areas on your body that don’t seem to change, no matter how much you exercise? Well, thanks to a therapeutic solution known as cryotherapy, you’re in luck! Commonly delivered through Cryoskin and CoolSculpting techniques, these two forms of cryotherapy offer an effective means of both reducing the appearance of fat pockets and toning the body. They do so by utilizing cold temperature to freeze, and so eliminate, fat storage cells. But which is more effective and what are the principal differences between the two treatments? Read on below to find out all about Cryoskin and CoolSculpting treatments.
What is Cryoskin?
Originally developed in France, Cryoskin is an umbrella term for the elimination of fat cells through the concentrated application of cold and heat, a process known as apoptosis (or, “programmed cell death”). The treatment is non-invasive, painless, and uses a wand-like instrument to glide over target problem areas. But there are actually three different Cryoskin treatments available: CryoSlimming, CryoToning, and Cryoskin facials. All three treatments use essentially the same technology, the only difference is the setting to which the wand is programmed.
To begin, CryoSlimming focuses on one specific area of the body at a time, and tends to work best on the stomach, thighs, arms, and the back. In a standard CryoSlimming procedure, heat at 40ºC is applied to the problem site for 2 minutes, followed by 12 minutes of cold at -8ºC, and the treatment typically lasts around 28 minutes. Three to five treatments per area are recommended for best results, with treatments spaced out at two week intervals. This is the recommended interval because of the time it takes for fat cells to pass through the lymphatic system, where they eventually get flushed out of the body through the urine. This process is also known as cryolipolysis.
Another form of Cryoskin treatment is CryoToning, which works by chilling subcutaneous fat, or the layer of fat just below the skin. As the fat is cooled, blood vessels expand (aka vasodilation) and collagen production is stimulated, breaking down the fibers that cause cellulite dimpling. More effective for tightening loose skin and eliminating the appearance of cellulite, CryoToning also helps reduce signs of aging. The procedure typically lasts 20 minutes, and three to five treatments are recommended for best results. However, unlike CryoSlimming, multiple areas can be targeted in a single session.
The final form of Cryoskin treatment is the Cryoskin facial, and it can be thought of as a kind of non-surgical facelift. Specifically designed to tighten the face, neck, and chin, the treatment does so by stimulating collagen production. Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced, skin texture is improved, and pore-size and skin elasticity are increased. Better yet, there is no downtime after treatment. Three to five treatments are recommended for best results.
All three treatments are safe for everyone except those with severe Raynaud’s Syndrome, those who suffer from poor circulation, those with severe diabetes, those with cancer, and pregnant women. But, it should be said, Cryoskin is not a weight loss solution. It is best suited for those in good shape who wish to subtly slim, tone, and eliminate problem areas on their bodies. Put differently, Cryoskin should not replace diet and exercise.
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting, a patented non-surgical cooling technique used to reduce fat in selected areas, is also based on the aforementioned science of cryolipolysis. It works best on the inner and outer thighs, upper and lower abdomen, love handles, arms, chin, back, and underneath the buttocks. It has also been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the arms, buttocks, and legs. Cleared by the FDA in 2012, it is a non-invasive procedure that requires no anesthesia, needles, or incision, and it typically lasts one to three hours.
Cryotherapy is cold therapy when the skin is exposed to maximum cold temperatures for a definite period.
Have you heard of people jumping into freezing water temperatures before? That’s it – that’s cold therapy! There are many ways Cryotherapy is used, such as ice packs, ice baths, coolant sprays, ice massage, and more!
Many athletes use Cryotherapy often to recover from their activities. The benefits of cold therapy are seen/felt after one treatment, but it’s only effective when used regularly.
